INDIAN CHIEF
BUCKSKIN
CHARLEY
This dramatic image of UTE Indian Chief "Buckskin Charley"
*
is a colorized lithograph created from an original photograph taken by Charles A. Nast
**
in Denver, Colorado. This is the earliest of several photographs of this Chief whose portrait NAST captured at several different stages of the Native American leader's life, including at least one with his wife. It was likely taken soon after Nast opened business in the 1880.
This print
was published by the Williamson-Haffner Engraving Company* of Denver, Colorado and is copyrighted 1901. The print itself has survived better than its large cardboard mount which chips
very
easily. An interesting decorative foil insignia or emblem is attached on the cardboard near the lower left corner.
Ready to display and admire.

CONDITION (as stated above):
GOOD Overall. Colors are intensely vivid with no sign of fading. Print has minor edgewear and one tiny nick located above and to the left of the chief's head. The print is attached to cardboard that has become fragile. A large part of the top right corner has chipped off and the lower left corner is chipped, but not so dramatically. There is a foil emblem attached at the lower left that is in excellent condition. Printed copyright info is crisp and clear along the lower right edge. It is more difficult to see the NAST PHOTO mark at the lower left -see the magnified photo attached. The surface is not 100% flat and smooth as it should be, but the rippling is minor and not particularly noticeable without scrutiny. This is a very clean and entirely odor free item.
