Untitled DocumentAntique Chinese Forbidden Stitch Embroidered Figural Cloud Collar Lobe Robe Trim
This antique Chinese forbidden stitch embroidered figural cloud collar lobe robe trim dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a black silk damask weave fabric background with woven dragon design and woven silver metallic, blue silk trim edging and colorful tiny forbidden stitch Peking knot hand embroidery work of Chinese figures, birds, butterflies and flowers. There are a variety of Chinese women figures done on each of the 3 pieces, with detailed hand painted white silk raised appliqued faces and one of a small child. These 3 matching style beautifully embroidered textiles are part of the 4 lobes of a Chinese cloud collar which would have come off of an older Manchu robe and has been professionally matted onto a newer silk damask weave patterned fabric border trim matting and silk backing suitable and ready for framing, with a "Peking, China" paper label on the back. The squares measures 18 by 14 inches, 17 by 13 inches and each lobe is 12 by 8 inches. They are in excellent condition, with only some ink writing on the fabric backings. These are truly a rare and beautiful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile embroidery art!
