    Description

Antique Coral Pink & White Silk Embroidered Chinese Manton de Manila Piano Shawl
This antique coral pink and white silk embroidered Chinese Manton de Manila piano shawl dates from 1900. It is made of a pinkish orange coral pink color silk fabric background, with white silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There are a variety of embroidered small floral bouquets spaced out in evenly lined rows and a beautiful Chinese Chinoiserie style meandering border trimmed with lotus and peony flowers along the edging. There is a fabulous heavy hand knotted macramé coral pink fringe measuring 12 inches long surrounding the entire shawl with rounded corners. The shawls fabric square measures 70 by 70 inches. This heavy 3 pound, quality made Manton de Manila style Spanish Flamenco shawl was made in Canton China for trade and export. It is in good as-is condition, has not been cleaned, with faint black stains, some fade discoloration and a small frayed corner of fringe (see close-ups). This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of Orientalism Chinoiserie wearable art!
