NATIVE AMERICAN CHOCTAW WEDDING INVITATION N.B. AINSWORTH MCALESTER INDIAN TERRITORY
Great historic ephemera including:
1. A wedding invitation for Napoleon Breedlove Ainsworth to Nora Willie Thompson on December 1, 1897 in Hollins, Virginia.
2. Letterhead from McCurtain & Ainsworth, Attorneys-at-Law, McAlester, Indian Territory. The stationery contains a personal note from his second wife, N.W.T.A (Nora Willie Thompson Ainsworth).
Mr. Ainsworth graduated from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. He went on to study law at the University of Virginia, before returning home to McAlester. He was a noted member of the United States Court in Indian Territory and represented the Choctaw Nation in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Thompson was the daughter of James Thompson and Helen Thompson of Roanoke. Her older sister, Emily Kyle Thompson, was Mr. Ainsworth's first wife. The newspaper reported that Emily and Napoleon were married at the now historic Bellevue home. I believe the Thompson family once owed Bellevue. James Thompson is listed in an early census as Sheriff of Botetourt County, Virginia. A news article lists him as Sheriff in Roanoke.
Nora Willie Thompson Ainsworth, as well as her parents, James and Helen Thompson, are all buried in Godwin Cemetery in Fincastle, Virginia.
