Description

What we're offering here is a some what Rare and quite hard to come by, Disneyland, Disney Gallery Tenth Anniversary art lithograph that features the art work of the
renown Disney artist and Imagineer Herbert Ryman. This gem is titled "House of the Future" and this early view captures the distinctive style that would make it a Disneyland landmark from 1957 until 1967. The innovative home, designed in conjunction with M.I.T., featured four fiberglass wings sitting atop a wide center column. Inside guests viewed such futuristic innovations as electric toothbrushes, a wide-screen color television, and a microwave oven - not to mention the design potential of plastic.
Herbert Ryman's association with the Walt Disney Company started in 1938, when he began working on backgrounds and story development sketches for Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Disney feature films.
In
the
summer of 1953, Walt Disney asked Ryman to create the first presentation concept art for a new park called "Disneyland." Ryman soon joined Walt Disney Imagineering (then known as WED Enterprises) full time. Over the years, he helped define the look of Disneyland through his renderings of New Orleans Square, the new Tomorrowland of 1967, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many other projects. He then played an instrumental role by providing key concept illustrations for Walt Disney World in Florida,
which
opened in 1971.
Although officially retired from Walt Disney Imagineering in 1971, he returned several years later, again using his unique artistic talent to help envision the themed areas and attractions of EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort, TOKYO Disneyland, the Disney-MGM Studios and Disneyland Paris.
Ryman was born in Illinois in 1910. He attended Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois and later studied at the Chicago Art Institute, graduating with honors in 1931. As an artist in the art department of MGM studios from 1932 to 1937, we worked on numerous feature films, including such classics as Mutiny on the Bounty, David Copperfield, and a Tale of Two Cities. Although Ryman sadly passed away in 1989, his artistic vision continues to inspire a new generation through the Ryman Program for Young Artists, a non-profit organization that provides professional artistic guidance and scholarships to talented young people.
