WW II BRITISH RARE TRUSTWELL BROS. SHEFFIELD MACHETE & SCABBARD BOTH DATED 1945 W/ BROAD ARROW ISSUED TO US AIRMAN from ESTATE..EXACT ONE
(see Pictures. PICTURES ARE HORRIBLE, much nicer in real ) RARE ISSUED TO U.S. AIRMAN BRITISH WADE ARROW MARKED RARE TRUSTWELL BROS. LTD. SHEFFIELD WITH SCABBARD MADE FOR US and BRITISH ATTACHMENT TO BELT ALL DATED 1945 5 RIVET BAKELITE HANDLE, VERY NICE CONDITION FOR AGE. SHOWS JUST LIGHT USAGE AND WEAR, a rare item not seen hardly ever, especially this nice.
WWII Era British made 17 1/2" blade, over-all 22 1/2" Machete The machete is marked Trustwell Bros. Ltd., Sheffield 1945, A.F. 0100 with an additional stamping "Made in England" above but partially not visible from poor stamping of it. Most of the blade is very nice but near the tip are a few tiny nicks/chips, original temper line still visible, and appears not sharpened after original finishing. Some discoloration to the blade, from age. Handle is black Bakelite in good condition, and has 5 rivets in the handle making it a a scarce very premium item. It had an additional dipped coating of same or similar coating on handle to cover the blade base through the handle, and possibly the rivets and all metal showing areas, this is very unusual ands would have also been only on a premium item, but is mostly worn away over the metal areas and is a little distorted in other areas. It is used, see photo's for condition. The scabbard is in quite nice condition. It is marked with the Broad Arrow proof and is also marked S.N.L. 1945, A.F. , 0101 and an additional hard to see 'Made in England" stamping. It has a metal throat with a full heavy duck canvas body. The canvas at the tip of the scabbard is reinforced and riveted for added strength, built for both British and U.S. standards for attachment to belt.
Came from an estate from (the son of) a former WWII Army Airman and his story to the family about this machete was it was issued to him when he was flying ( not a pilot but a crew member of some kind), one time the plane went down (no injuries) and he had to use it to hack away some brush, so he used it in this unlucky experience, and thought it would be an interesting thing to take home. There has been some talk about whether British in service equipment, especially machetes, were issued to U.S. personnel in the European theater, but that apparently was this guys story for all the years their never any reason to doubt him. Anyway you get what you see, rare item not seen very often, especially this nice. Sold as-is, uncleaned, unrestored, with all faults. This would be a great item to add to your collection.
