    WWI ERA GERMAN 98/02 BAYONET

    To my bidders: For years I have done business on eBay using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives.
    This WWI Era German 98/02 Bayonet belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was on display with a WWI era German rifle.
    This WWI era German 98/02 Bayonet is clean overall (see photos). The bayonet's long 20.625 inch fullered blade is clean with graying overall (see photos). It appears very lightly sharpened long ago but doesn't have much of a sharp edge now. The ricasso is marked to one side with the maker Alex Coppel - Solingen (see photos). The blade spine is marked with a crown "W", cypher and year of manufacture (1907 - see photos). The crossguard, pommel and backstrap have heavily browned overall and the pommel is marked with cypers at the top (see photos). Oil darkened wood grips are clean/tight and secured with screws (see photos). No flashguard is present to the backstrap and the muzzle ring ears are low (see photos). The spring loaded release button at the pommel functions properly.
    The bayonet scabbard is clean overall and is the leather bodied version (see photos). The body has the steel mounts to each end and they have browned overall as well (see photos). The steel mounts and frog stud remain securely attached. The top fitting is unit marked to the reverse and has cyphers stamped to the throat (see photos). The leather seam stitching to the reverse remains without issue but there is a crimp to the leather above the bottom fitting (see photos). The leather has not broken and the scabbard remains intact/function-able (see photos).
    This WWI era German Model 1898 "Quillback" bayonet is clean overall and is guaranteed to be an original period piece as described. It is well marked and has a nice early 1907 date.
