Air India flight, diverted to Canada due to bomb threat, leaves for Chicago

Air India on Wednesday announced that the Chicago-bound flight carrying 211 people which was diverted to Canada after receiving a bomb threat, was finally heading to its destination. On Tuesday, seven Indian flights got bomb threats, with at least two of them making emergency landings.
In a statement, Air India said that passengers of flight AI127 were being ferried on a Canadian Air Force aircraft which took off from the remote Canadian city of Iqaluit at 3.54 am (local time) and is expected to land in Chicago at 7.48 am (local US time).
“We thank the Canadian authorities and authorities at Iqaluit airport for their support and assistance extended to the passengers and Air India during this unexpected disruption,” it added.

Of the 211 people on board, 20 were crew members.
On Tuesday night, the flag carrier had announced that the flight was “subject of a security threat posted online and, as a precautionary measure, has landed at Canada’s Iqaluit airport”.
Besides the New Delhi-Chicago Air India flight, the six others that received bomb threats on Tuesday were the Jaipur-Bengaluru Air India Express, Dammam-Lucknow IndiGo, Darbhanga-Mumbai SpiceJet, Siliguri-Bengaluru Akasa Air, Amritsar-Dehradun-Delhi Alliance Air and Madurai-Singapore Air India Express.
The development came a day after three international flights from Mumbai were affected due to similar threats, with one being diverted to Delhi.
While the Mumbai-New York Air India flight carrying 239 passengers was diverted to Delhi for security checks, the two other concerned flights were IndiGo 6E 1275 en route to Muscat, IndiGo 6E 56, headed for Jeddah.
